AU convenes a Nairobi workshop on digital-agriculture interoperability
The African Union Commission held a three-day workshop in Nairobi on 11-13 August 2026 to advance implementation of the AU Digital Agriculture Strategy across IGAD and Food Systems Resilience Program countries, with a focus on a more integrated and interoperable digital agriculture ecosystem.
Coordination between national platforms is a precondition for shared farmer data and services. A workshop is not evidence that systems interoperate or that farmers use them.

FAO maps El Niño drought risk for Southern African cropland
FAO’s June 2026 analysis, built on 41 years of satellite imagery from its Agricultural Stress Index System, points to a greater than 50 percent probability of agricultural drought across large parts of Namibia and Botswana, extending into areas including Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, as a stronger-than-usual El Niño is forecast.
A probabilistic risk map only becomes a product when an advisory, insurance, or input-timing service turns it into a buyer’s decision. The forecast is not a yield outcome.

World Bank documents the scale-up of Zambia’s FISP e-voucher
The World Bank reports that Zambia’s Farmer Input Support Programme e-voucher, launched in 17 districts in the 2023-2024 season with about 220,000 farmers, reached close to 740,000 farmers across 74 districts in 2024-2025, with all remaining districts to be covered in 2025-2026.
A national subsidy channel with a farmer registry is a distribution rail that other services could attach to. Coverage figures do not show yields, income effects, or willingness to pay for private services.
